| NHS launches new campaign and website |
|
The NHS has launched a new campaign based on the message ‘Drinking causes damage you can’t see’. The campaign includes a new website which incorporates many of the tools and information from the Know Your Limits site - plus details about alcohol’s hidden effects.

| Children, young people and alcohol |
|
The Department for Children, Schools and Families has published results of research examining parents’ and young people’s attitudes and behaviour towards alcohol and alcohol consumption. The report can be downloaded from the DCSF website.

| Awards for alcohol students |
|
The Alcohol Education and Research Council (AERC) awards studentships in two categories – Taught Courses (available to students who are working in the alcohol field and who wish to acquire appropriate professional qualifications) and Postgraduate Research Students (up to three students a year will be joint-funded for three years to undertake research in the alcohol field leading to a PhD). Deadline for receipt of applications – Monday 10 May 2010. Full information and application form available from the AERC website.

| NOMS alcohol policy consultation events |
|
The National Offender Management Service Interventions and Substance Misuse Group (NOMS ISMG) is holding a series of stakeholder consultation events in March 2010 to inform the development of NOMS Alcohol Policy.
These are practically focussed events aimed primarily at commissioners, strategists/policy makers, operational managers and practitioners from community and custodial settings and representatives from the alcohol treatment sector. Events will be held in Leeds (9 March), London (11 March), Manchester (23 March) and Bristol (29 March). Email Rebecca Kamara for further details.

| Survey into GPs knowledge, attitudes and practice on alcohol-related harm |

The AERC (Alcohol Education and Research Council) has published the results of a survey to assess the current knowledge, attitudes and practices of GPs concerning brief alcohol intervention and to examine whether these had changed over the last ten years. | Youth Policy project: Have your say! |
The Youth Policy project is planning a series of consultation seminars across England and Wales between March and May. The events are aimed at professionals interested in reducing alcohol-related harms amongst young people up to 18-years old and will provide an opportunity to contribute to the development of youth specific resources, share innovative “local” practice and input into policy recommendations. Events are taking place in London, Nottingham, Newcastle, Manchester, Cardiff and Plymouth. For further information go to our website. |

Alcohol Concern runs a training and consultancy service – offering a range of training packages on issues such as Identification and Brief Advice, Alcohol Awareness and Alcohol and Young People.
