AC GAINS VOICE IN EUROPE
Alcohol Concern has become a member of Eurocare (The European Alcohol Policy Alliance), an alliance of 50 non-government organisations working in 20 countries in the EU to prevent alcohol-related harm in Europe. Members of the forum devote time and resources to preventing alcohol-related harm. We hope to argue for EU-wide measures to reduce harm in relation to price and duty levels, advertising and drink-driving legislation.

BENEFITS AT RISK FOR PROBLEM DRINKERS
Problem drinkers could lose benefits if they don’t take up treatment offered to them according to a new government scheme.
The scheme will have job centres refer problem drinkers for treatment and those who refuse to attend or fail to complete the course will lose benefits. Alcohol Concern’s response can be viewed here.

MANDATORY CODE UPDATE
In December 2008 the government announced plans to introduce a mandatory code to tackle irresponsible retailing such as two for one and happy hours.
The government is planning to announce the contents of the Code in the next couple of weeks, meanwhile, we have just published a report on why we think minimum pricing should be part of the mandatory code (see The Price is Right).
