Curriculum Review Announced

The government today announced the national curriculum review. We explain what is happening and what this means for Citizenship.

It may be that Citizenship education - along with other subjects in the current curriculum - will have its current status removed. If that happens, the current national entitlement may be removed.

The new curriculum will be taught from September 2013 and will
have 'a greater focus on subject content, outlining the essential knowledge and understanding that pupils should be expected to have to enable them to take their place as educated members of society’ (4.9).

This does not mean that it will no longer be possible to provide Citizenship education but it may mean that the existing way Citizenship education is taught in schools or experienced by pupils may change.  Read more...
