West Africa appeal
Ten million people are facing chronic hunger following a period of poor rainfall and failed harvests in the Sahel region of West Africa.
MRDF projects in Niger and Mali are feeling the effects of the crisis, with many families fleeing the rural areas in search of food. The United Nations has estimated that in Niger alone 1.5 million children are at risk of becoming malnourished over the next year unless urgent action is taken.
We have launched an emergency appeal in response to the crisis. Donate now.

Stop the hunger casino
Every day banks are making huge profits from betting on food prices in unregulated financial markets, causing the price of food around the world to rocket.
This reckless speculation is pushing up the price of basic foods like wheat and maize, forcing millions into poverty.
MRDF is working with the World Development Movement to demand that the UK government back proposals to regulate betting on food prices, ensuring that banks can no longer decide the fate of the world's poorest people.

Runners can take the heat
Three intrepid MRDF supporters braved the humid weather to take part in the annual London 10K run on 11 July. The team, which included John Goodwin, a children's and youth worker, Sam Hollingworth, a town planner and MRDF Programme Manager, Nick Burn, raised hundreds of pounds for our work in some the poorest communities around the world.
